Help 100 Smallholder Farmers in Eastern Cape Access Water for Farming
Campaign by: Hippo Roller Foundation NPC
Goal: $13,750 to provide 100 Hippo Rollers ($137.50 per Hippo Roller including delivery & projects costs)

The Problem
In Ward 20 of the Cwebe Administrative Area, Eastern Cape, South Africa, smallholder farmers—mostly women and the elderly—are working tirelessly to grow vegetables that feed their families and generate modest incomes.

But they face one huge challenge: access to water.

Their fields are far from clean water sources. Every day, farmers walk long distances carrying heavy buckets to irrigate crops—a time-consuming and exhausting effort that limits productivity, especially in dry seasons.

These communities depend on rainfall and distant streams. Water collection is labor-intensive and falls mostly on women and youth, negatively impacting food production, income, and household well-being.

The Solution: Hippo Rollers

The Hippo Roller is a game-changing tool—a large, durable drum that rolls on the ground, allowing users to transport up to five times more water requiring far less effort and time.

With your help, we aim to provide 100 Hippo Rollers to the farmers of Ward 20. These rollers are perfect for the local terrain and will make a huge difference in the lives of rural farmers.

The Impact

Your donation will help:
Increase crop yields and farm productivity
Lighten the physical burden on women and elderly farmers
 Improve food security and nutrition
 Promote sustainable rural development

“Water collection is back-breaking and time-consuming. Hippo Rollers would be a game changer—improving irrigation, productivity, and livelihoods.”

— Siya Mphaliso, Agricultural Extension Advisor, Ward 20
