In remote communities across Africa, children often face the unimaginable challenge of balancing education with survival tasks. Lpus Leluai Primary School, in SAMBURU District, Kenya, is home to 40 children, this means each child had to bring 2–3 litres of water and firewood to school daily, just so a simple lunch could be prepared.
This burden has now been lifted. Thanks to the generous donation of a Hippo Roller, facilitated through Community and Wildlife Conservation (CWC), head offices in Nairobi, everything has changed.
Instead of children carrying heavy water containers, the school now has a reliable water solution. A single Hippo Roller provides enough water for four days before needing a refill. The teacher shared how much lighter the children’s workload has become: today, each pupil only needs to bring a small piece of firewood, rather than litres of water.
The impact has gone beyond the schoolyard. Mothers in the community, who usually endure long walks to fetch water, have also felt the relief. The Hippo Roller has not only reduced physical strain but has brought joy and appreciation to families who see how much time and energy has been freed for their children’s learning.
This partnership between Hippo Roller, CWC, and local supporters like Neel demonstrates how innovative, practical tools can make a profound difference in daily life. What was once a backbreaking chore is now an empowering solution.

One Hippo Roller. Countless ripples of change.
With gratitude to all involved, including the CWC team and Community Liaison Officer Rajas Lenengwesi, for ensuring that this donation reached the community where it matters most.
